Akram Khan rethought the classic plot of the 19th century - together with playwright Ruth Little Khan, he transferred the plot to real time, "humanizing" the characters. Instead of pastorals and villagers - a factory and a tent camp, where emigrants work hard and live. Instead of aristocracy - cruel capitalists. Giselle is no longer a simple-minded girl. The main character Khan has already experienced and seen a lot in life, but managed to remain open and sincere. Hilarion, who is in love with her, is not just an honest peasant who zealously tries to fight for his happiness. He is an adaptor, a businessman who knows how to find a common language both with his own and with those who oppress.
